Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has said a decision on revising fares for buses, trucks and other transport will be taken on Thursday (23 April).
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Wednesday following a meeting at the Secretariat on fixing new bus fares in light of the recent increase in fuel prices.
The minister said no final decision on transport fares was reached during the meeting. “A decision on fixing new fares for buses, trucks and other transport will be taken on Thursday,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association said the transport sector is facing mounting financial pressure. It noted that a recent Tk15 per litre increase in diesel prices, along with a rise in the US dollar exchange rate, has significantly driven up the cost of imported spare parts and overall vehicle maintenance.
In this context, transport leaders have urged the government to revise fares promptly and rationally, in line with higher fuel and maintenance costs, to ensure stability in the sector.
