State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat has said that Bangladesh has signed an agreement with Boeing to acquire new aircraft in a bid to upgrade its aviation fleet to international standards.
”We have already signed for 14 Boeing aircraft,” the state minister said while speaking to reporters after the first session of the second day of the DC Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Monday.
”Although our fleet operates internationally, it does not yet fully meet international standards. To achieve that standard, we have signed the agreement to purchase 14 Boeing aircraft and we plan to lease additional planes.”
He also added that the government is working to renovate unused airports across the country and bring them back into operation for domestic routes.
The State Minister further said, “There has been a lot of talk about our tourism, especially how we can work together with our Cox’s Bazar, our Kuakata and the big establishments.
Millat expressed hope that the third terminal of Shahjalal International Airport will be inaugurated this year, saying, “We hope to start the third terminal on December 16.”
