    Corruption, religious extremism contrary to Ekushey spirit: Iftekharuzzaman

    Dr Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), has said that corruption and religious extremism are contrary to the spirit of Ekushey.

    He made the remark after paying tribute to the language movement martyrs at the central Shaheed Minar on Saturday (21 February).Dr Iftekharuzzaman emphasised that all citizens of Bangladesh are entitled to equal rights.

    He stressed that discrimination based on religion or ethnicity is unacceptable and contradicts the ideals of Ekushey.He added that those who deny equal rights to women, religious and ethnic minorities, indigenous communities, persons with disabilities, and other marginalised groups act against the spirit of Ekushey, and such practices must be rejected.

    Dr Iftekharuzzaman expressed his vision for a Bangladesh where the principles of Ekushey ensure equal rights, coexistence, social dignity, and justice for all — reflecting the true essence of the movement.
