The chiefs of the three services paid floral tributes to the Language Movement martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar in the first moments of International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Day.
They laid wreaths at 12:19am on 21 February, honouring the martyrs in the early hours of Amar Ekushey.Earlier, at 12:12am, Bangladesh’s 11th Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, placed flowers at the altar in remembrance of the martyrs and left the Shaheed Minar premises at around 12:21am.
Prior to that, at 12:01am, President Mohammed Shahabuddin arrived at the Central Shaheed Minar and paid his respects to the language heroes.
