The Election Commission (EC) has instructed the Bangladesh Television (BTV) to reserve a slot on 9 February for airing BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s election message to the people ahead of the 12 February polls.
To this end, EC Public Relations Director Md Ruhul Amin Mallick sent a letter to the BTV director general on Tuesday.
The BTV will have to fix the time and duration for recording the speech in consultation with BNP, the letter read.
Any election candidate can submit an application to get his/her speech aired through BTV. The speech will be aired on the basis of the “first come, first served” approach, the letter added.So far, only BNP has applied for the speech recording, and therefore, the party’s desired date of 9 February has been allotted.
It is an imperative to create a suitable environment for holding free, fair and credible elections, the EC letter noted adding, the BTV can play a role in preparing an equal platform where all candidates can telecast their election message.
