Home Minister and BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has said the party will uphold the portions of the July National Charter it agreed upon, renewing the commitment as parliament prepares to reconvene.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after a meeting of treasury bench lawmakers at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Salahuddin said discussions on public expectations and the implementation of demands raised by July martyrs will take place once the new parliamentary session begins.
The first session of the 13th Parliament is set to start on Thursday, when the president will administer the oath to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker in accordance with parliamentary procedures, he said.
Following the oaths, the House is expected to elect panel chairmen and hold a condolence motion and discussion.
The home minister added that 133 ordinances issued by the previous interim government will be tabled during the session for parliamentary approval. Several key committees, including the Business Advisory Committee, will also be formed.
The president is scheduled to deliver an address at the inaugural session later in the day, after which the day’s proceedings will conclude.
The Business Advisory Committee will meet the next day to finalise the parliamentary agenda, and the current session may be dissolved on March 15, according to the home minister.
