Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin, executive director of Ad-din Foundation, has stepped down from his post “voluntarily”.
Following his resignation, the Board of Directors has appointed Professor Jamalunnessa as the new executive director, according to a press release signed by Tariqul Islam Mukul, director of the foundation’s company affairs.Jamalunnessa recently retired from the Department of Microbiology at the University of Dhaka, where she taught and conducted research for more than 25 years.
The development came days after the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) cancelled the licence of Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar following an “unsatisfactory” response over the tragic deaths of six newborns. In the press release, Ad-din authorities said they are firmly committed to bringing necessary changes to their infrastructure and management systems following government directives.
The hospital has already begun extensive work to remodel and modernise its premises. Under the leadership of three independent consultants, work is underway to ensure proper ventilation, air circulation, and adequate oxygen supply. The authorities have also completely shut down the bakery located above the corporate office.
Expressing deep sorrow over the newborn deaths, Ad-din authorities said a preliminary probe has already been completed and action has been taken against staff found negligent.
