A prosecution witness in a crimes against humanity case told the International Crimes Tribunal today that he had taken a photograph with a man sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of writer-blogger Avijit Roy, and posted it on Facebook after the convict was released on bail.Masrur rejected claims that he was a member of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), saying the allegation was not true.

He was testifying as a prosecution witness in a case over enforced disappearance linked to a Task Force for Interrogation (TFI) cell, allegedly operated under the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab). He had earlier testified before the tribunal yesterday, saying that he was disappeared on March 1, 2020.

The 36-year-old electrical and electronic engineer said five to six men abducted him from near Dhaka’s Gulshan area while he was on his way to office. He said they dragged him into a microbus, handcuffed and blindfolded him, and took him to a secret detention centre.

Masrur said he was held in two locations for about a week, during which he was tortured twice and threatened with death.
