At least eight children have died across the country in the past 24 hours due to measles and with measles-like symptoms, according to the latest report from Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among them, two deaths were confirmed as caused by measles, while six children died with symptoms consistent with the disease.
The latest report, released on Thursday, covers the period from 8:00 AM Wednesday to 8:00 AM Thursday.
Government data shows that since March 15, a total of 34 children have died from confirmed measles infections.
The highest number of deaths occurred in Dhaka (20), followed by Barishal (5), Chattogram (4), Rajshahi (3) and Mymensingh (2).
During the same period, 172 deaths have been recorded nationwide among children showing measles-like symptoms.
In the past 24 hours alone, 92 new measles cases have been confirmed.
Additionally, 1,191 patients with measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals, with 811 requiring admission.
Dhaka reported the highest number of hospital admissions during this period, with 358 patients hospitalized.
Since March 15, a total of 20,352 patients with measles-like symptoms have visited hospitals across the country.
Of these, 13,129 were admitted for treatment and 3,065 cases have been laboratory-confirmed as measles.
