The Jatiya Sangsad has passed the July Uprising (Protection and Determination of Liability) Bill, 2026, to protect individuals, including students, who participated in the 2024 July Uprising.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed placed the bill in the House on Wednesday and it was passed by voice vote. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, presided over the parliament session.According to the provisions of the law, it will be deemed effective from 25 January 2026 and considered to have been in force since 1 July 2024.
