Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the education ministry to find effective alternative measures to reduce traffic congestion during school hours in the capital.
The instruction was given at a meeting with Education Adviser ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj at the Secretariat on Tuesday, said Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman.He said the meeting discussed ways to reduce severe traffic congestion during school hours in the capital and explored possible alternative arrangements. The Prime Minister instructed the relevant ministry to prepare and submit necessary proposals in this regard, he added.
Citing an example, the Additional Press Secretary said, “At one school in the capital, nearly 100 vehicles gather in front of the institution for around 150 students, creating severe traffic congestion. This situation causes significant suffering for students during their commute.”
The Prime Minister emphasised the need for effective measures to address such problems, he said.
Following the meeting with the education officials, Energy Adviser Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku and State Minister Aninda Islam Amit also met the Prime Minister, the Additional Press Secretary said.
Later, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan also held a meeting with the Prime Minister.
