A Dhaka court on Sunday placed former Member of Parliament and retired Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury on more six-day remand in a case filed over allegations of human trafficking and extortion.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order following a seven-day remand petition filed by Sub-Inspector Md Raihanur Rahman of the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP.Around 1:50pm, Masud Uddin was produced before the court by police. The hearing began at around 2:17pm.
During the hearing, state counsel Omar Faruk Faruqui argued in favor of the remand, while defense lawyer Touhidul Islam Sojib sought its cancellation. After hearing both sides, the court granted a six-day remand.
According to the remand petition, although important information was obtained during the previous five-day remand, investigators could not gather all necessary details for the case. Therefore, further interrogation in remand is essential for the sake of the investigation.
