Nahid Islam, parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-11 and convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has expressed confidence that the 10-party alliance will form the next government with an overwhelming electoral victory.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday (January 22) after paying tribute, offering prayers and holding a munajat at the mausoleums of three leaders on the Dhaka University campus, Nahid said the alliance was poised for a decisive win.
Explaining the symbolism behind launching his election campaign from Dhaka University, he said the campus represents a vital part of the region’s history and heritage. “We are beginning our electoral journey here in remembrance of our predecessors and the historical legacy of this institution,” he said.
Describing the upcoming election as a “journey of liberation against domination,” Nahid said the primary agenda of the campaign is to ensure justice for the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha.
He urged authorities to submit the charge sheet in the Hadi murder case before the election.
Nahid also criticised the government and the Election Commission, alleging that both had taken a partisan stance in favour of a particular political party.
