Two accused in the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, have confessed in court and been sent to jail. The accused, Sanjay Chisim and his associate Md. Faisal, were charged with helping the prime suspect, Faisal Karim Masud, flee to India.

On Thursday (January 1), their statements were recorded before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam. They were produced in court after an application by the investigating officer, DB Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed, seeking to record their confessions. The court approved the application, recorded their statements, and sent them to jail.

Osman Hadi was shot in Motijheel on December 12 while traveling in an auto-rickshaw on the way to Suhrawardy Udyan after concluding his election campaign following Friday prayers. The attackers, riding motorcycles, opened fire near Box Culvert under Paltan Model Police Station before fleeing. Hadi was seriously injured and initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After surgery, he was shifted to Evercare Hospital and later sent to Singapore for advanced treatment on December 15. He succumbed to his injuries on December 18.

Earlier, on December 14, Abdullah Al Jaber, secretary of Inqilab Mancha, filed a case at Paltan Police Station, accusing the suspects of attempted murder. Following Hadi’s death, the case was upgraded to a murder investigation.

The case document states that on December 12, after attending Friday prayers in Motijheel, Hadi concluded his election campaign and was heading to Suhrawardy Udyan. Around 2:20 pm, when the auto-rickshaw carrying Hadi reached the Box Culvert area under Paltan Model Police Station, the attackers on motorcycles shot at him with the intent to kill and fled the scene.

The accused face charges under multiple sections of the penal code, including criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, causing grievous injury with dangerous weapons, and abetting the crime.
