Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her condolences on the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. On Tuesday, a condolence message was released on the verified Facebook page of the Awami League.

The message stated that the Prime Minister is deeply saddened by the passing of Khaleda Zia, who served as Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister and played a significant role in the country’s struggle for democracy. Her death represents an irreparable loss to both Bangladesh’s political landscape and the leadership of the BNP.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for the eternal peace of Khaleda Zia’s soul and extended her heartfelt sympathies to her son, Tarique Rahman, and other grieving family members.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, also shared a condolence message on his verified Facebook page, expressing sympathy to Khaleda Zia’s bereaved family.

For context, the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina was ousted following the mass uprising in July, culminating on August 5, 2024.
