The Junior Scholarship Examination for eighth-grade students, scheduled to be held on Wednesday (December 31), has been postponed due to the three-day state mourning declared following the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The examination will now take place on January 5.
The decision was confirmed on Tuesday (December 30) afternoon by Professor SM Kamal Uddin Haider, Controller of Examinations of the Dhaka Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
He said the postponement was decided in observance of the state mourning. According to the revised schedule, the examination will be held on January 5 at the same time and at the same centres. Candidates will not be required to collect new admit cards.
Board sources said all other instructions and regulations related to the examination will remain unchanged, and educational institutions concerned have been directed to take necessary measures accordingly.
Meanwhile, the government has issued a gazette notification declaring three days of state mourning—from Wednesday to Friday (December 31 and January 1–2)—following the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. As part of the mourning programme, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, educational institutions, as well as at all public and private buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad.
Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6:00am today at Evercare Hospital in the capital, where she had been undergoing treatment. (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un).
