The condition of July 2024 attack survivor and gunshot victim Sharif Osman Hadi, who is receiving treatment at Singapore General Hospital, remains critical and unchanged, according to his doctors. The latest CT scan shows persistent ischemic changes in his brain, with some increase compared to previous scans.
Dr. Abdul Ahad, a neurosurgeon at Dhaka Medical College (Dhaka Medical College Hospital – DMCH) and directly involved in Hadi’s treatment, briefed journalists on Wednesday (17 December). He said there is currently no clinical improvement, and Hadi’s treatment continues under conservative management.
Dr. Ahad explained that Hadi’s recent CT scan in Singapore confirmed ongoing cerebral ischemia due to reduced blood flow, with no significant improvement in neurological reflexes. His overall condition is “critical and static”—meaning there has been no deterioration, but also no improvement. Hadi is on cardiac support, ventilatory assistance for his lungs, and his urine output is being maintained with medical support.
Regarding the bullet fragments still lodged in Hadi’s brain, doctors said the pieces are located in deep, delicate areas of the brain. Removing them may not yield noticeable improvement in brain function and could increase surgical risks, especially given his fragile condition.
Some discussions have arisen about transferring Hadi to the UK or the US for treatment, but doctors say such a move is currently impractical due to the physical strain of long-distance travel. Family consent and medical feasibility would be crucial in any such decision. For now, treatment will continue at Singapore General Hospital under conservative management, with regular investigations and close monitoring.
Dr. Ahad also addressed misinformation circulating on social media, stressing that claims of improvement are unfounded. Hadi’s condition remains critical and stable, and the public is urged to avoid rumors and pray for his recovery.
The doctors expressed confidence that the high standard of care initially provided in Bangladesh is being continued in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Inqilab Mancha, the organization closely following Hadi’s condition, posted on its Facebook page that his health remains stable enough to prepare for surgery only after achieving full physiological stability. The primary goal at present is to restore connection between the brain and body; all other bodily functions remain active.
Hadi’s family has requested special prayers for his recovery, asking for divine protection and healing for him.
