BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia remains in a critical condition and is not yet stable enough to be taken abroad for treatment, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Saturday. Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka for several days.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Mirza Fakhrul said that a medical board comprising local and foreign specialists held a meeting on Friday night that lasted two to two-and-a-half hours. The physicians discussed her current condition, associated risks, and possible treatment options.

“Madam’s physical condition is not yet stable enough for overseas travel,” Fakhrul said. “However, communication with relevant countries, including arrangements for visas and an air ambulance, has already been established. She will be taken abroad once she becomes fit to fly.”

He further noted that large gatherings of BNP leaders, activists and well-wishers at the hospital were creating difficulties for hospital authorities and disrupting treatment for Khaleda Zia and other patients.

“I urge everyone not to crowd Evercare Hospital,” he said. “We will release official health updates on Madam’s condition at the appropriate time.”
