Dhaka court has sentenced Evaly e-commerce company’s Managing Director Mohammad Russell and Chairperson Shamima Nasrin to five years in prison in a fraud case.
In addition to the jail term, the court imposed a fine of Tk 10,000 on each of them. If the fine is not paid, they will face an additional three months of imprisonment.
The verdict was delivered on Wednesday by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain in Dhaka. As the accused were absent during the hearing, the court issued arrest warrants along with the verdict.
The bench assistant Nazmul Hossain confirmed the information. According to the case details, the complainant Sadikur Rahman had ordered three motorcycles on 20 March 2021. The motorcycles were not delivered within the stipulated time, and the complainant was instead given two cheques from City Bank.
When the complainant tried to encash the two cheques on 12 April 2022, they were returned unpaid. Following this, Sadikur Rahman filed the case against Mohammad Russell and Shamima Nasrin on 26 November 2023 at the CMM Court in Dhaka.
