A passenger bus was set on fire by miscreants in Dholaipar area of the capital on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 6:30pm, said the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Two units from the Postogola Fire Station rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control shortly after their arrival. No casualties were reported.

Rozina Akter, duty officer at the Fire Service headquarters, said, “We received a report of a bus fire in Dholaipar at 6:38pm. Two units from the Postogola station responded quickly and extinguished the fire. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.”

The incident comes amid a series of arson attacks, crude bomb blasts, and petrol bomb incidents targeting vehicles across different parts of Dhaka in recent days. Between Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon, at least five such incidents were reported in Ramna, Uttara, Mirpur, and Mohammadpur areas.

Police claimed that the fires on a police pickup in Ramna and a microbus in Uttara were caused by “mechanical faults.” However, the cause of the fire that gutted a bus in Mirpur’s Shah Ali area remains unclear.

Meanwhile, an Ansar member was injured in a crude bomb explosion near the entrance of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport late Tuesday night. Two petrol bombs were also hurled at Mohammadpur Preparatory School the same night. On Wednesday afternoon, another bus was set ablaze near Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur.
