Although the Election Commission (EC) has added ‘Shapla Koli’ (water lily bud) to its list of election symbols, the National Citizen Party (NCP) has expressed dissatisfaction, insisting on the Shapla (water lily) symbol instead.
In an immediate reaction on Thursday afternoon, NCP Joint Member Secretary Zahirul Islam Musa told journalists, “We do not accept the ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol. We want the water lily. We are not satisfied with the inclusion of ‘Shapla Koli’ in the EC’s list.”
When asked whether the party would accept the newly added symbol if allotted, Musa reiterated, “Our desired symbol is the Shapla (water lily). We want the Shapla, not the bud.”
He added that the party would announce its formal stance once the EC officially allocates election symbols, but reaffirmed that NCP expects to be given the Shapla symbol.
