BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has been appointed to the party’s National Standing Committee, its highest policymaking body.

The party announced his appointment in a press release issued on Saturday, saying the decision was taken to strengthen the party’s organisational activities and in line with its internal decisions.

Earlier, after the BNP came to power, Rizvi was appointed on 17 February as an adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with the rank of a minister. He was also serving as the party’s senior joint secretary general.

Rizvi began his political career in student politics after completing higher secondary education, joining the left-leaning Revolutionary Students Union. He served as general secretary of the organisation’s Rajshahi Government College unit.

Later, after the formation of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, he joined the organisation and became publicity secretary of its Rajshahi University unit. He subsequently served as general secretary of the university unit and later became central president of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
