Detectives arrested former textiles and jute minister Latif Siddique from Gulshan in the capital on Wednesday in the 2013 Shapla Massacre case filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
Niaz Mehedi, additional deputy commissioner at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the arrest, adding Latif Siddique was being taken to the office of Detective Branch (DB).
A few hours earlier the former Awami League leader told reporters he was ready to surrender before the tribunal, if police would not arrest him.
Latif Siddique made the remark at a Dhaka court after attending a hearing session in another case filed over the “Moncho 71” platform launched last year.
Earlier, the ICT issued an arrest warrant against him in the Shapla Chattar case.
