The government is set to launch the piloting stage of expatriates’ card around the middle of next month, it was decided at a special meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, on Saturday.
The card will include at least 10 special benefits aimed at ensuring the proper recognition and financial empowerment of the expatriates, officials said at the meeting held at the Chameli House of the Prime Minister’s Office.
The government aims to distribute 50,000 cards by December and 200,000 cards by June next year.
In the first phase, the state-owned Janata Bank will issue the Probashi debit cards. In the second phase, Probashi Kallyan Bank will oversee all activities related to the Probashi Card programme.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the relevant authorities to take necessary steps to ensure that all Bangladeshi expatriates living in different countries are brought under the Probashi Card programme.
