Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today said the proposed national budget was designed to ease the financial burden on citizens from all walks of life while helping the country overcome the economic challenges inherited by his government.“I would describe this as a ‘Jibon Bandhob Budget’ — a budget for better living. Drawing on our best judgment, conscience and expertise, we have sought to provide at least some relief and comfort to people from all walks of life and across every profession,” the prime minister said while taking part in the general discussion on the proposed FY2026-27 budget in parliament today.

He also proposed a series of revisions to the fiscal plan, including raising the tax-free income threshold for individual taxpayers over the next five fiscal years and withdrawing several contentious provisions in response to public concerns.

Describing the budget as one of the state’s most important policy instruments, he said the government had presented a realistic, practical and people-oriented fiscal plan after carefully balancing competing demands and prevailing economic realities.
