The United States has suspended the issuance of immigrant visas for citizens of 75 countries, including Bangladesh.

The information was shared in a post on the verified Facebook page of the US Embassy in Dhaka on Saturday.According to the post, the US Department of State has made the decision, citing concerns that immigrants from these countries have a comparatively high rate of receiving government assistance funded by US taxpayers.

However, the suspension applies only to immigrant visas. Non-immigrant visas—including tourist and student visas—remain unaffected.

The list of countries includes Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Azerbaijan, the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Myanmar, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, Cuba, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominica, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Fiji, the Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Pakistan, the Republic of the Congo, Russia, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Uruguay, Uzbekistan and Yemen.

The embassy also noted that dual nationals holding valid passports from countries not included in the list will be exempt from the suspension.
