Gold prices in the domestic market have been reduced again, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) cutting the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 1,458 per bhori.
According to the latest decision, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 222,724 per bhori. BAJUS announced the new rates in a notification issued on Thursday night (January 1), which will come into effect from Friday (January 2).
The association said the latest adjustment was made in line with a decline in the price of refined gold (pure gold) in the local market, after reviewing the overall situation. Earlier, on Wednesday (December 31), BAJUS had reduced the price by Tk 2,741 per bhori.
BAJUS also noted that the government-mandated 5 percent VAT and a minimum 6 percent making charge set by the association must be added to the selling price of gold. The making charge may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewellery.
Despite the fall in gold prices, silver prices remain unchanged. On Saturday (December 27), the price of 22-carat silver was increased by Tk 933 per bhori to Tk 6,065.
Under the revised rates, the price of 21-carat silver stands at Tk 5,774 per bhori, 18-carat silver at Tk 4,957 per bhori, and silver under the traditional method at Tk 3,733 per bhori.
